Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be the child of breast cancer patient/survivor or parent died of breast cancer. Applicant must live within 50 miles of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Applicant must have a high school diploma or GED. Applicant must be a legal U.S. resident. Applicant must have a minimum G.P.A of 2.0. Applicant must be accepted as a full-time student in an undergraduate program at either a two or four-year accredited college or university.  Applicant is evaluated based on grades, community service, financial need, and essays.

Application Process: 2013 Application deadline is January 22, 2013. 2014-2015 application period opens October 1, 2013. Application process consists of: application, official copy of transcript, medical verification form for parent’s cancer diagnosis, letter of recommendation, and three essays.

Award recipients are required to participate in at least one breast cancer awareness project during the school year they receive a scholarship. Award recipients must reapply every year for new award.

 

Miles of Hope

(New York)

 

Assistance Provided: Eight scholarships of  $1,000 each. Payment is made directly to the recipient’s school.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must reside in one of the following eight New York counties: Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Westchester and Ulster. Applicant’s life was affected by breast cancer. Applicant must be a graduating high school student who plans to attend a college or vocational school the following Fall.

Application Process: 2013 Application deadline is April 1, 2013. 2014-2015 application period opens October 1, 2013. Application process consists of:  application, copy of high school transcript and SAT scores, essay, letters of recommendation, financial aid form, parents’ tax return.

 

Sisters Journey Scholarship

 (New Haven, Connecticut)

Assistance Provided: College scholarships.

Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must have or had an immediate family with breast cancer. Applicant must be a minority student. Applicant must be a graduating high school student from a Greater New Haven area high school. Applicant must have an acceptance letter from a  2 year or 4 year college. Applicant must have community service experience.

Application Process: 2014 application deadline is April 1, 2014. Application process consists of: application, two letters of recommendation (one personal recommendation, one academic recommendation), official high school transcript, and 300-500 word essay. Letters of recommendation must be mailed to Sisters’ Journey directly.
